Practical tips to maintain your dental health during the hot season.
Summer brings outdoor activities, travel, and increased consumption of sugary or acidic drinks that can affect your dental health. Here we share the most important tips to protect your smile.
Stay hydrated with water. Heat leads us to consume sports drinks, juices and sodas that contain high amounts of sugar and acids that erode enamel. The best option is always water, which also stimulates saliva production, your natural defense against bacteria.
Maintain your brushing routine. During vacation it is easy to break routines. Make sure to bring a dental kit: brush, toothpaste and floss. Brush at least twice a day and after consuming very sugary foods.
Use lip balm with SPF. Lips also need sun protection. A lip balm with SPF 30 or higher will prevent burns and dryness that can cause painful cracks.
Avoid chewing ice. A very common summer habit is chewing ice from drinks. This can fracture teeth or damage existing fillings and crowns.
Visit the dentist before traveling. If you have a long trip planned, schedule a preventive check-up before leaving. It is better to identify any problems before they become an emergency away from home.
