When should my child visit the dentist for the first time?+
We recommend the first visit when the first baby tooth appears or before the first birthday. An early visit allows us to detect problems from the start and teach parents how to care for the baby's mouth.
How do I prepare my child for their first visit?+
Talk to your child about the visit in a positive way. Avoid words like "pain" or "injection." You can play dentist at home with a mirror. In our clinic we use the "tell-show-do" technique so children become familiar with instruments before they are used.
Is it necessary to treat cavities in baby teeth?+
Yes. Baby teeth are essential for chewing, speech, and the spacing of permanent teeth. An untreated cavity can cause pain, infection, and affect the development of permanent teeth.
What are dental sealants and when are they applied?+
Sealants are a protective resin layer applied to the pits and fissures of molars to prevent cavities. They are recommended as soon as permanent molars erupt, usually between ages 6 and 12. No anesthesia is required and they last several years.
