Everything you need to know about orthodontics
At what age is orthodontics recommended?+
The first orthodontic evaluation is recommended at age 7. However, treatments with braces or aligners usually begin between ages 11 and 14, when permanent teeth are present. Adults can also be treated at any age.
Do braces hurt?+
It is normal to feel mild pressure or discomfort during the first days after placing braces and after each adjustment appointment. This discomfort subsides in 48-72 hours. Over-the-counter pain relievers are sufficient to manage it.
Can I eat normally with braces?+
You should avoid hard, sticky or very crunchy foods that can break brackets: candies, ice, nuts, popcorn. Other foods can be eaten by cutting them into small pieces.
How long should I wear the retainer when finished?+
After active treatment, we recommend wearing the retainer continuously for 6-12 months and then only at night indefinitely. Without a retainer, teeth tend to shift back over time.
